Tritel Services (Pvt) Limited entered the local market in 1997 as a pay phone services operator. Representing the Telecom arm of a Malaysian Conglomerate with diverse business interests spanning across the globe, Tritel is the second largest Malaysian investment in Sri Lankan Telecom Sector.
Undoubtedly as the longest serving pay phone operator Tritel has witnessed several players dropping out of the fray over the years. Today, we serves more than Eighty Percent of major town ships through our competent network of field officers scattered through out the country.
The extensive public pay phone network which started with the installation of first ever phone in Negambo in 1998 today speaks of over 5000 terminals spread over most parts of the island serving rural and economically down trodden communities fulfilling one of their priority needs.
Latter part of Year 2001 saw the birth of its fully owned subsidiary, Tritel Technologies, which functions as the research, development and technical support arm of Tritel Services. Pioneering efforts of the highly skilled team of professionals manning Tritel Technologies led to the development of its own software platform to support a PIN based prepaid card call centre programme which has become one the of the most popular services available to local market today.
With the deregulation of the Sri Lankan IDD market, Tritel was awarded External Gateway Operator, and Internet Services Provider Licences by the then regimes in Sri Lanka.
In recognition of its distinguished and unparalleled service in the sphere of public telephony, on the recommendation made by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, Tritel was awarded the first ever Facility Based Licence in September 2005 to build and operate its own network infrastructure to operate public pay phones, marking a turning point in the local telecom market and the future direction of our company.
